Our Blue Planet
Water covers more than two-thirds of Earth's surface!
Why?
Look at Earth from space and you’ll see lots of blue! That’s because water covers about 71 percent of Earth’s surface, more than two-thirds of our planet. That’s why Earth is called “the blue planet.”
But most of that water is in the oceans, and it’s salty. Only a small amount is fresh water that we can drink, like the water in the Nile River. That’s why every drop is precious!
Try it
Draw a big circle and divide it into three equal parts like a pizza 🍕. Color two parts blue for water and one part green and brown for land. Now you can see how much of Earth is covered by water!
