Skin Is the Biggest Organ in Your Body

Your skin is the biggest organ in your body!

Why?

An organ is a body part with a special job, like your heart or your lungs. The biggest organ of all is one you see every day: your skin! It covers your whole body like a soft, stretchy coat.

Skin has three layers. The outer layer protects you. The middle layer has tiny blood vessels and sweat glands that help cool you down when you’re hot. The bottom layer is made mostly of fat, which keeps you warm and cushions you.

Your skin is always making new cells, and every minute about 30,000 to 40,000 tiny dead skin cells fall off without you even noticing!

Try it

Look at the back of your hand with a magnifying glass 🔍. Can you see tiny lines, little hairs and tiny holes called pores? Sweat comes out through the pores to cool you down!

What do we do to take care of our skin every day?
