Quick summary

Arabic Letters, Level 3 is a free 34-page A4 PDF for children ages 6 to 8 who have finished Level 2. Children read each of the 28 letters with the three short vowel marks (fatha, damma, kasra), write short words with their marks, and match each word to its picture. There are three words for each letter. The book is in Arabic; this page gives you the English guide.

At a glance

  • Ages 6–8 (Level 3 of the Arabic letters series)
  • 34 pages · A4 PDF
  • 28 letters with fatha, damma, and kasra, and three words per letter
  • Free download, no sign-up
  • Best laminated, with a wipe-clean marker

How does this book help your child?

The goal is to read each letter with its three short vowels, write short words with their marks, and link a written word to its picture:

  • The vowel mark changes the sound: the same letter is read in three ways (for example بَ بُ بِ: ba, bu, bi), so children practice linking letter shape and vowel mark to sound.
  • Marks are introduced gradually: in a study of 1,516 children from grade 1 to 6, reading accuracy and fluency were higher for words without vowel marks in every grade, except grades 1 and 2 where accuracy was similar. Practice with marks, then move gradually toward unmarked text.
  • Words and pictures: matching the word to its picture builds meaning.

Ages are approximate. Pace varies a lot from child to child.

What is inside the file?

Guide for parents and teachers: how to use the book

For parents who don’t read Arabic

  • The 28 letter names, in the usual alphabet order: Alif, Baa, Taa, Thaa, Jeem, Haa, Khaa, Dal, Dhal, Raa, Zay, Seen, Sheen, Saad, Daad, Taa (emphatic), Dhaa, Ayn, Ghayn, Faa, Qaaf, Kaaf, Laam, Meem, Noon, Haa, Waw, Yaa.
  • Arabic is written and read from right to left, so start on the right side of the page.
  • A few sounds (such as Haa, Khaa, Ayn, Ghayn, and Qaaf) have no exact English equivalent. Listen to a native speaker or a pronunciation video before you teach them.
  • The instructions inside the PDF are in Arabic. This page explains what you need to run each session.

Good to know

  1. Fatha is a short “a” sound, damma a short “u”, and kasra a short “i”.
  2. In most everyday Arabic texts these marks are left out, so this book is a step toward fluent reading, not the end goal.

Set up

  1. Print on A4 at 100% (Actual size), not “Fit to page”.
  2. Laminate the pages or use a clear sleeve, and use a dry-erase marker.
  3. Keep it calm: a small table, good light, no screens.

How to present

  1. One letter at a time: read it with each of the three marks, then the words.
  2. Write a word, then match it to its picture.
  3. Stop without pressure if your child is tired.

Five to ten minutes is plenty. If reading stays very hard for weeks, check with a specialist.

Next step: Pair this book with short Arabic stories at home as your child’s reading grows.
